Scott grew up in South Carolina where he received a Master’s Degree in Architecture and Healthcare Facilities Design from the Clemson University Architecture + Health Studio after studying abroad in Genoa, Italy. After graduation, Scott moved west, first stopping in Phoenix where he grew to Principal with a boutique design firm specializing in advanced imaging and cardiac work. After a decade, he moved back east to open the southeastern design office for Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz, then to Washington DC to develop a healthcare design studio for RTKL Associates. Serving there as an International Design Leader and Studio Director, Scott spent ten years working around the globe developing projects on five continents.

Scott’s passion for advancing the state of design in the profession has driven him to remain active with affiliated organizations and academia. He served as a board member for the AIA Academy for Architecture on Health for nine years, leading the organization as national president in 2005. He is a founding member and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Architects, a regular speaker on the national symposium circuit and frequently lectures / teaches in the University setting. Scott is also a member of the Advisory Council for the International Well Building Institute.

Scott’s work has been singularly focused within the healthcare market his entire career spanning the full range of client types from a non-profit community to large academic. He specializes in personally leading process-driven design scenarios on projects ranging from 6000-bed medical centers to 40,000 square foot health clinics. “My passion is for the process; a solution that enhances everyone’s experience. It does not matter the size or complexity of the program, just that a process of true exploration is undertaken.” Scott brings a LEAN approach to design, believing that only through an exhaustive exploration of true research, operational analysis, and creative thinking can a perfect solution be possible. True architectural talent can deliver a product that is a balanced measure of beauty, budget, and functionality.
